Anyone willing to offer free legal advice?

my daughter who has been married for nearly 2years, (from New York state) is splitting up with her husband. When she graduated highschool, her father bought her a car. she allowed her then boyfriend who is now the estranged husband to title the car and register it in his name for insurance purposes or so he said, and now that they have split, he keeps threatening to take the plates from the car, tho he says he cannot find the title to the car. can someone shed some light on this?
