What can you tell me about the Bay area that would make me want to move there?

If you have a place to stay, I say go for it. You will have to immediately hit the ground running with a job search, however. Friends usually come from your job, or other things you get involved in. Go out and join organizations or activities. The Bay area is expensive, but salaries are higher as well.
