The burnt odor probably comes from your power supply. With added load from the new processor and cooling system, the power supply is heating up. Be sure the power supply has enough wattage to handle the added load. Otherwise, invest on a new power supply with more capacity (1000 watts or more if available). It costs just a fraction of your new purchases.
