Malicious email recieved - what will police do?

I got an anonymous email from someone telling me my husband was cheating on me. I dont believe it, the email was clearly sent maliciously to hurt me but I dont know from who. They did not make any threats or anything like that but will the police investigate anyway? what about yahoo...can they give me the IP address of the email so I can find out where it came from?
