A question about the healing heart?

Can a heart that has been broken ever completely mend or will there always be a hole from life's romantic bombs?Why doesn't it have a strong enough shield to prevent it's gap from becoming larger? What controls the heart, if it was the mind then why don't we have control?Like we do with what we wear,eat,watch etc.Why does it never forget that special something about each and every contribution,and doesn't this somehow unknowingly or knowingly spill over into the next invited or uninvited intruders?
